According to reports from our readers, DISH’s joint venture NagraStar has obtained copies of PayPal transactions from several IPTV services. They have taken this information to send out demand letters that former IPTV customers pay a fine or face legal action. We now have received multiple reports of DISH sending warning letters along with copies of the PayPal transactions to IPTV services.
Here is how NagraStar’s website describes what they do:
Welcome to SatScams.com. This site is provided by NagraStar to help educate and inform people about the civil and criminal actions taken by NagraStar and their partners, DISH Network and Bell TV. These actions are taken against those who try to obtain DISH Network or Bell programming in a fraudulent manner including, but not limited to, receiving programming without authorization by and payment to DISH Network and Bell TV; or illegally designing, manufacturing, marketing, selling, or using devices that could allow access to DISH Network or Bell TV satellite signals without authorization and payment.
According to the NagraStar website, they are willing to accept $3,500 from those who have purchased illegal content and $7,500 from those who sold IPTV services and devices, but we have seen DISH successfully sue some resellers for millions in damages.
This news comes as DISH and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) are suing a growing list IPTV services and so-called “Kodi Box” sellers. Recently several major IPTV services including Vadar and Simply TV have shut down and both seem to be linked to ACE and DISH lawsuits possibly putting their subscribers at risk of facing legal or at least demand for payment from DISH.
There may even be a bigger wave of lawsuits coming than just Vader and Simply TV. Recently in Europe a massive IPTV police action shut down that reportedly managed payments for more than 50 million IPTV customers and 5,000 IPTV resellers. The question now is will the data from Vader and Simply TV be turned over to DISH and others who will start to use it to sue IPTV subscribers.
