Discovery+ Reached 24 Million Subscribers Before Merger with Warner Bros.

Ahead of the merger with WarnerMedia, Discovery’s streaming service Discovrey+ hit 24 million subscribers, according to the company’s Q1 results. That number is up from 22 million at the end of 2021.

When combined with HBO and HBO Max subscribers, the combined Warner Bros. Discovery now has over 100 million subscribers globally, though Warner Bros. Discovery did not include WarnerMedia numbers in its first ever Q1 report.

“With Warner Bros. Discovery, we are creating a pure-play media company with diversified revenues and the most compelling IP ownership, franchises, and brand portfolio in our industry. Importantly, we also have an unrivaled global footprint of touchpoints to get our content into the hands of consumers on every screen,” President and Chief Executive Officer of Warner Bros. Discovery David Zaslav wrote in the report.

Warner Bros. and Discovery closed their merger on April 8. The new company has plans to combine Discovery+ and HBO Max but for now, the two are remaining separate. Discovery+ is currently priced at $4.99 per month with ads or $6.99 without ads. The service primarily focuses on nonfiction programming. HBO Max currently costs $9.99 per month with ads or $14.99 a month without ads. HBO’s service features HBO content, originals, movies, and more.
