Discovery and Polish pay-TV company Cyfrowy Polsat are partnering to launch a new streaming service. According to Deadline, the service which has no name yet will house programming from Polsat and TVN which is owned by Discovery, as well as generate its own original content.

“This new venture fits squarely into our international strategy and belief that local broadcasters need to better satisfy consumer demand by aggregating their offerings and developing a strong local-content-led streaming service.” said president and CEO of Discovery EMEA Kasia Kieli.

There seems to be a growing trend for companies to launch services with the intent of selling directly to overseas customers, instead of just selling content rights to the middlemen. For example, CBS recently launched CBS All Access Canada which was the first time they direct-sold content to consumers internationally. And this isn’t the first time Discovery has stepped into the international market – last June it launched an ad-funded streaming service Joyn in Germany with European mass media company ProSiebenSat.1.
