How to Disable Netflix’s Auto Play Feature

One of the most controversial features that Netflix has ever added has to be auto play next episode. Some love it; some just hate it; others just don’t care.

Sadly if you have a data cap it can really eat it up, because your Roku will keep playing for a few episodes if you fall asleep or turn off the TV but forget to turn off Netflix.

The good news is you can now turn off the “play next episode automatically” feature. The following lists the steps on how you do that:

1 Go to Netflix.com and log in.

2 In the top right-hand corner, hover over the down arrow next to your profile name until a drop-down menu appears.

3 Select Account.

4 At the bottom of the Account page, find the section called “My Profile.” Click on “Playback Settings.” Here is a link directly to that page if you want to make this quick.

5 Below Data Usage you will find a menu section called “Auto-Play.” If you uncheck the “Play next episode automatically” option, it will stop automatically playing the next episode.

*Important: This will only turn it off for that Netflix profile—not all of them. Great if you hate them but your spouse likes them. If you want to turn them off on all profiles you need to do this for each profile.

If you would like to opt out of new features like auto play previews you can now do that. Just head over to the Test Participation settings page on Netflix and turn it off.

There you go. You can now turn off auto play next episode.
