DIRECTV’s U-Verse TV Service is Back Up After Suffering Weather-Related Outage

U-Verse TV’s service suffered a weather-related outage starting Sunday night, but a company spokesman confirmed that service has been restored.

The outage appeared to spike initially around 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, with even more reports flooding in around 7 a.m. ET on Monday. At its peak, there were nearly 3,100 reports of problems, according to DownDetector. The site’s heat map of problem areas saw big concentrations in Houston, Dallas, St. Louis, and Seattle.

The outage came as an “Arctic Blast” barreled down in the U.S., bringing frigid cold temperatures across the country.

While U-Verse is owned by DIRECTV, many people still associate it with AT&T, since it was formerly part of the telecom giant’s U-Verse triple play bundle of phone, TV, and internet service. When AT&T spun out DIRECTV into its own business, U-Verse went along for the ride, and has been managed by DIRECTV ever since.

That’s why the customer response has been handled by a mix of DIRECTV and AT&T social media accounts.

“We appreciate our customers’ patience as we worked to resolve this matter,” said a DIRECTV spokesman.

It’s not the first outage to hit folks across the country. Earlier this month, Verizon Wireless saw its service go down in several local markets.
