DIRECTV STREAM Launches A $34.99 a Month TV Package With 40 TV Channels Along With Free Disney+, Hulu, & Max

In a decisive break from the bloated cable bundles of yesteryear, DIRECTV announced today the launch of three new Genre Packs and two Mini-Pack Add-ons, expanding its satellite-free streaming options with a focus on customization and value. Building on the momentum of MySports, introduced in January, and MyFree DIRECTV, rolled out in November, these offerings—available now via directvstream.com and soon on device partners and directv.com—signal a strategic pivot to meet consumer demand for tailored, affordable entertainment. With cable TV shedding 27.6 million U.S. households since 2017, DIRECTV’s move aims to capture a cord-cutting audience weary of overpriced, one-size-fits-all packages.

“We’re breaking up with the past by delivering new ways for consumers to enjoy the content they love at the best value,” said Vince Torres, DIRECTV’s chief marketing officer, in a statement. “Our new Genre Packs and Mini-Packs provide lower-priced options, allowing customers to pick and choose what they want to watch and when.” Priced between $34.99 and $69.99 monthly, the Genre Packs—MyEntertainment, MyNews, MiEspañol, and MySports—cater to distinct viewer passions, while Mini-Packs like MyCinema and MySports Extra let subscribers tack on niche content starting at $9.99. All Genre Pack subscribers also gain access to 100+ free channels via MyFree DIRECTV, amplifying the deal.

DIRECTV’s betting big on simplicity too. A June 2024 Hub Research report found 75% of consumers crave one platform to manage subscriptions—a need DIRECTV meets with a unified app experience across its offerings, from free MyFree DIRECTV to Signature packages. A MyHomeTeam Mini-Pack, targeting regional sports networks, is slated for MLB’s March 27 opening day, further refining its appeal. With cable’s average cost hitting $147 monthly in 2024 DIRECTV’s $34.99 entry point and no-satellite flexibility could lure the 10.73 million new U.S. households formed since 2017 (Census.gov), many of whom shun traditional bundles. This isn’t just a tweak—it’s a lifeline in a streaming-first world.
