One of the most common rumors has been a required bundle to get the best DirecTV Now price. A source contacted Cord Cutters News and informed us that if you want the $35 price you will need to be an AT&T Wireless subscriber. Non-AT&T Wireless subscribers would pay more if this rumor is true.
The idea of bundling really should not be a surprise to anyone because the AT&T CEO made sure to include in his statement that the “$35 includes unlimited mobile data for your TV viewing if you have AT&T.”
We cannot confirm if this is accurate so we contacted AT&T, and they declined to comment about any potential AT&T bundle requirements when we talked with them. Sadly that leaves the door wide open to all the rumors flying around right now.
Streaming services typically have small profit margins but wireless phone plans have high margins. It would make sense for AT&T to bundle the TV service with a wireless plan in the hopes that more people would sign up for the higher profit phone plan.
We can confirm that there will be different packages for DirecTV Now, and it would be safe to say that some of the packages would be deals for people who bundle.
This also seems to be in line with AT&T using the traditional DirecTV service to push their wireless plans. Put it all together and it is understandable why these rumors are flying around. The idea of an AT&T bundle being required is in line with typical AT&T business practices.
However, we do have a leaked internal email that suggests DirecTV Now will launch November 4. Hopefully by then we will know more about the packages and pricing.
