According to the report, YouTube TV has topped 1 million active users in March 2018. DIRECTV NOW saw the strongest year over year growth with 185% jump in installs. According to Apptopia PlayStation Vue was level and has “essentially not grown or diminished” according to the report. According to the report, Sling TV saw a 34% decline in year over year numbers. (It is important to note that this does not mean Sling TV has lost subscribers. Just that fewer people installed their app vs 2017.)
Some other interesting numbers are Hulu seeing a 163% growth year over year and fuboTV seeing a 170% growth year over year. According to Apptopia Hulu has also seen strong revenue growth with the launch of their live TV streaming service.
The future of live TV streaming is really up for grabs right now. We have at least 3 new live TV streaming services launching this year. New cheaper plans coming from Discovery and AT&T that will also challenge the current state of live TV streaming.
