DIRECTV NOW May Be Working on Adding “Socialable” Viewing

For years now, companies have tried to find new ways to let friends and family who live in different areas watch TV shows together. Now it looks like AT&T is looking at options to add what they call “socialable” viewing.

This new option would allow people to simultaneously watch the same programming together even if they are not in the same place.

An AT&T employee posted about this idea on the r/DIRECTVNOW subsReddit. Here is that post:

Ex: friend/loved one is far away and you can use direct tv and watch a show/movie simultaneously. A more socialable feel.

Just gathering feedback.

Note: I do work for AT&T

How far into this AT&T may be is very hard to tell. It is just as likely that DIRECTV NOW is in the early stages of planning or this could be just one more idea that is kicking around inside the DIRECTV NOW team.

For years now, people have tried to perfect the ability to watch the same show even if they are not together. So far no one has perfected a system people seem interested in.
