DIRECTV NOW Issues an Official Statement on Refunds for Upset Customers

Depressed mature man holding paper and looking at it while sitting on the couch at homeOver the last few weeks talk about how to get a refund from AT&T for its DIRECTV NOW service. Many subscribers have been plagued by service outages, password request issues, and a long list of errors.

The long list of issues and a recent post from Sarah Perez at Tech Crunch seems to have led to a explosion of our readers wanting to learn if there is anything they can do to get a refund from DIRECTV NOW.

We reached out to AT&T’s PR team that handles DIRECTV NOW and received the following statement:

“DIRECTV NOW is a prepaid monthly service that allows customers to cancel at any time. Since charges are prepaid each month, customers can enjoy the service through the end of the current billing cycle. Refunds are not issued for a partial month.”

So it seems that AT&T is treating DIRECTV NOW like a prepaid cell phone service. Once you paid for the service you own it and there are no refunds.

It seems as though many subscribers are seeing the new DIRECTV NOW service as no different from many traditional pay-TV providers: If there is an outage many have become accustomed to calling in for a partial refund; however, AT&T sees the service differently, which seems to be causing issues with its subscribers.

Update: Last night after we talked with the DIRECTV NOW PR team several readers have said they received $10 refunds. Have you tried to get a refund from DIRECTV NOW? If so please post your experience in the comments below and let us know what happened when you asked for a refund.
