DIRECTV NOW is Rolling Out System Upgrades Tonight For Beta Testers

Father curled up on the sofa with his two daughters. They are watching a movie with popcorn.Today DIRECTV NOW started contented beta testers about possible issues tonight as part of a planned system upgrade. DIRECTV NOW did not exactly explain what upgrades are happening, but from the looks of it, these are back-end system upgrades.

Here is the email DIRECTV NOW is sending beta testers:

Hello Testers,

Tonight we will be upgrading a few things.  This upgrade will run from 12 – 6 AM PST.  During this time you will still be able to beta test as usual, although you might experience intermittent streaming issues.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Thanks again for testing along with us.

What changes will happen is something we will have to wait and see. If you find any noticeable differences tomorrow, please email Cord Cutters News with details.

This does come a few days after DIRECTV NOW started to upgrade some locals to 1080p 60fps. Cord Cutters News recently confirmed that our local Dallas CBS affiliate updated their stream to 1080p 60 fps on the DIRECTV NOW beta app. Not all CBS locals are at 60 fps. Several readers still see it at 720p 30 fps.

So what is fps? Frames per second (fps) tells you how many times the image on your screen is refreshed every second. The more frames, the smoother the picture looks. For a scripted drama, 30 fps will look great; however, for faster action such as sports, many want 60 fps so the action looks smooth on the screen.

Hopefully, more great updates like this will come in the days and weeks ahead.
