DIRECTV NOW is Offering Some Users $20 Off New Roku Sticks

DIRECTV NOW today started to contact some subscribers with a special offer to get $20 off a 2017 Roku Stick. We are not sure exactly how they are picking who gets the offers and who does not but it seems to be an effort to get users to upgrade to the more powerful 2017 Roku Stick.

With this deal, it brings the cost of the 2017 Roku Stick down to $29.99. There does not seem to be any requirement for you to agree to renew your service to get the discount.

Here is the email that is going out:

Hi XXXX,

We always want you to enjoy DIRECTV NOW℠ to the fullest. And because you’re a valued customer, we believe you deserve an upgrade.

Together with our friends at Roku®, we’re giving you a coupon for $20 off a Roku® Streaming Stick. This portable player comes with a voice-activated remote with TV power and volume buttons to make streaming easy whether you’re at home or on the go.

YOUR COUPON CODE: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Recently since the DIRECTV NOW 2.0 upgrade complaints about the service have skyrocketed. The push to get users to upgrade their streaming players to new and more powerful version could be an effort to help fix the widespread issues. AT&T has yet to comment on what is causing the issues plaguing subscribers, but the timing of this offer has many speculating.
