DIRECTV NOW is Getting Ready to Release a Streaming Player Called The Osprey

For some time now we have known that AT&T was working on a set-top box for DIRECTV NOW. The device is an Android TV powered streaming player called Osprey. (AT&T is very likely to change the name before release.)

This all comes from a Reddit user called Justice_Ranger who claims to be an AT&T employee. Other AT&T Employees have also posted confirming the email and the Osprey. There is other supporting evidence including a complete copy of the Osprey user manual posted online.

Here is the email going out to AT&T Employees looking for beta testers:

It is very likely this will be the set-top box for the reported DIRECTV streaming version. According to reports AT&T wants to offer a streaming version of DIRECTV that will offer the same contracts and channels but without the dish on your house. For now, they are likely using DIRECTV NOW to test it and will likely also offer it as an option for DIRECTV NOW customers.
