DIRECTV NOW is Giving Away Free Streaming Players to LeEco TV Owners

One of the few smart TVs DIRECTV NOW supported was LeEco TVs and when they rolled out their support it was a big deal. Now DIRECTV NOW is contacting LeEco TV owners to tell them that soon DIRECTV NOW will no longer work.

Here is what DIRECTV NOW sent LeEco TV owners:

We wanted to give you a heads up that in the next 30 days the DIRECTV NOW app will no longer be available on LeEco TVs.

We apologize for this inconvenience.

To make this right DIRECTV NOW is offering a FREE streaming player to DIRECTV NOW owners. They did not disclose what device would be sent to subscribers but they say you will “receive a streaming device so you can continue to watch DRIECTV NOW on your LeEco TV.”

So why is this happening?

It looks like we are about 30 days away from a major update to the DIRECTV NOW app. Recently AT&T promised a brand new app to replace the current DIRECTV NOW app that will combine DIRECTV and DIRECTV NOW subscribers into a single app.

It is possible that in the next 30 days the new app will roll out and that it will not support LeEco TV owners. That is the only reason we can come up with for AT&T to drop support for a smart TV. We will be keeping a close eye on this story and will post updates on the new DIRECTV NOW app as new details become available.
