Update: DIRECTV NOW Is Giving Away Cinemax to Beta Testers

Are you a DIRECTV NOW beta tester? It looks like DIRECTV NOW has a little thank you just for those who are helping them beta test their new DVR and app. This was pointed out to us from a reader and we found multiple Reddit users talking about it also.

Update: Well Murphy’s Law for reporters has struck again. Now that we have posted about this readers are now saying that the channel is still in their guide but no longer playing. Now when you click on it you are asked to subscribe.

Update #2: Good news you can use your DIRECTV NOW login to access the Cinemax app.

Recently DIRECTV NOW added Cinemax to the beta app of DIRECTV NOW testers. This gives DIRECTV NOW beta testers access to original shows such as Rellik and Banshee. They will also get access to a growing list of movies including Mad Max: Fury Road and Fifty Shades of Grey.

It was recently announced that the DIRECTV NOW DVR and beta app will not roll out until spring 2018.

This all comes as DIRECTV NOW started testing a Roku version of their DVR beta. According to the emails going out, the DVR will come later. “The True Cloud DVR is not available for Roku devices yet. We’ll let you know when it’s ready for Roku device testing. In the meantime….” The email goes on to say “You can stream live channels and on-demand content…. You can set recordings from your Roku device, but at this time you can’t view your playlist or playback any recordings on it.”

Here is the DIRECTV NOW Beta running on Roku:
