DIRECTV NOW DVR NOT Likely to Come Out in January or February

Channel Surfing ManBack on December 30, 2017, we predicted that the DIRECTV NOW DVR would likely be released in January 2018. Almost every day we get an email or in our weekly Q&A a question about the DIRECTV NOW DVR. Readers are interested in what is happening, so we wanted to update our prediction.

A lot has changed since we posted that. DIRECTV NOW has suffered a growing list of outages and network-wide buffering. From what we heard from sources, the DIRECTV NOW team is working hard to iron out the new bugs and deal with a flood of new users that is taxing their system. (If you want to learn more about why live TV streaming is more difficult than on-demand streaming, click HERE.)

These new issues and the start of the Roku beta this week have pointed us to predict the delay of the beta until the end of February at the earliest with March looking more realistic.

There is good news though. DIRECTV NOW has been rolling out beta access to more and more users. As best we can tell, about half of our readers who use DIRECTV NOW have access to the beta. It looks like DIRECTV NOW is using the beta to slowly roll out the DVR to more subscribers.

So it is possible if you don’t have the DVR beta right now that you will get access to it in the weeks to come. So hang in there. The DVR is coming to DIRECTV NOW customers.
