DIRECTV NOW Drops Support For Several Popular Browsers

AT&T has since launch offered support to stream DIRECTV NOW through your browser. Now it seems they are cutting back on what browsers they will support.

Recently DIRECTV NOW posted this message if you tried to access DIRECTVNOW.com to stream video on anything but Chrome.

For our best streaming experience, DIRECTV NOW will live exclusively on Google Chrome when accessed via your computer. We will no longer be supporting Safari or Internet Explorer browsers after June. And of Course the DIRECTV NOW App will still be your go-to when streaming on your mobile devices.

There are a few possible reasons for this move. First DIRECTV NOW could be about to update their website and something may not be supported in browsers other than Google Chrome.

Yet other have suggested the real reason is a effort to block Playon and their recording of DIRECTV NOW content. Playon uses Internet Explorer to stream the videos and record them for later reply. Something that likely breaks the DIRECTV NOW terms of service with the content owners.

No matter what the reason you will need to get Chrome or soon you won’t be able to access DIRECTV NOW on a laptop or desktop computer.

We have contacted AT&T for comment and will update this story if we learn more.
