DIRECTV NOW Brings Back HDMI Lightning Support

Since the rollout of DIRECTV NOW 2.0 the ability to stream DIRECTV NOW over an HDMI Lightning AV Adapter on iOS was no longer supported. AT&T never officially commented on if the feature would be restored, but now it has.

Recently DIRECTV NOW rolled out v2.1.0 on iOS. With this update, HDMI Lightning AV Adapters are once again supported on iOS. This update allows you to stream DIRECTV NOW with Sponsored Data to your TV. That means you can stream all you want over your AT&T Wireless Unlimited plan and not have it count against your data cap.

This is also a great option for anyone who wants to watch DIRECTV NOW on the road but does not want to bring an extra streaming device.

DIRECTV NOW is not the only service that offers this feature. Recently Hulu added support for HDMI Lighting AV support to iOS devices. Now you can also watch Hulu’s live and on-demand content on the go with an iOS device using HDMI Lighting AV out. This is excellent news as Hulu currently does not support live TV streaming on set-top boxes outside of your home network.
