DIRECTV NOW is NOT Supporting Android TV

Update: The Google Play Store is no longer letting us install DIRECTV NOW on our Android TV player. Sadly this looks like it was a glitch on the Google Play side. DIRECTV NOW did just pull their Fire TV Beta from the Fire TV app store. You can learn more HERE.

Earlier today we reported that the DIRECTV NOW android app was showing up on Android TV devices. That looks like it was likely a glitch and is no longer supported. The app that installed was very similar to the tablet version with several features not working with the remote. The good news is Android Tablets, and Phones now have access to an updated version with DVR support.

Here is the new DIRECTV NOW Android description:

DIRECTV NOW℠ now with True Cloud DVRBETA, is your NEW standalone streaming service for Live TV and On Demand entertainment. Quickly find your recently watched movies & shows, right at your fingertips. Enjoy news, sports, events and shows as they happen, or binge your favorite TV series and movies anytime, anywhere. Looking for instant access to top entertainment with no annual contract, no satellite and no hassle? You’re one click away from rules free tv. Simply install the DIRECTV NOW℠ app and join the streaming revolution!

Sorry for any confusion when we tested it the download worked but it was quickly pulled and clearly seems to have been a mistake. This was likely caused by the new Android app rolling out to phones and tablets.
