DIRECTV NOW Adds Starz Networks As A Stand Alone Package

Expanding on its premium programming or HBO and Cinemax, DIRECTV NOW has added eight Starz Encore channels to AT&T’s OTT-TV DIRECTV NOW service.

Starz’ original series, include “Power,” “Outlander,” “Ash vs Evil Dead” “Survivor’s Remorse” and next year’s “American Gods.” In addition, the network will include first-run movies such as “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” This deal was first announced before DIRECTV NOW came out but the channel was only recently added.

“With the addition of premium networks from Starz and Starz Encore, we are continuing to build a robust streaming platform,” Dan York, chief content officer for AT&T, said in a statement. “DIRECTV NOW will give consumers the best of both worlds – a breadth of great content with the freedom to watch it anywhere, anytime.”

Starz “will be offered on this upcoming streaming platform with a great value for consumers,” COO Jeffrey Hirsch says. In addition to its original programming, the premium network will have Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Starz can offer Disney films released before the end of 2015; the studio’s more recent releases will appear on Netflix.

DIRECTV NOW is selling Starz for just $8 a month slightly cheaper than the $8.99 you will find it on services like Amazon’s Channels service.
