DIRECTV NOW Adds The Ability to Pause Live TV

Family Watching TV At Night Sitting On Sofa Together

When DIRECTV NOW launched you could only pause DIRECTV NOW’s live TV feed for a few seconds. According to a conversation Arstechnicahad with an AT&T rep back at launch you could only “pause live TV, but only for five or 10 seconds. After that, when customers hit play they will return to the live portion of the stream.” They went on to say “DVR and pause capability is coming in the future, likely (in 2017).”

Now when you pause live TV on the web browser and select streaming players you can keep it paused as long as you want. (Or at least as long as we have been able to see in our testing.) The one catch is you can not fast forward or rewind the video. When you hit pause you pick up exactly where you left off with no option to fast forward.

We are unsure when this update happened. From looking through message boards we can not find anyone mentions the ability to now pause live TV for as long as you want. Just 12 days ago we found a post on Reddit with Redditors talking about live TV pausing still does not work.

AT&T is currently beta testing a live TV DVR with select testers. They say the DIRECTV NOW DVR features should roll out to all sometime in the fall of 2017. (Likely in late fall 2017.)

We have confirmed the new feature on the web version of DIRECTV NOW. Have you found it working on other players? Leave us a comment and let us know.
