DIRECTV NOW Adds 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio to Their DVR & On-Demand

A few weeks ago, DIRECTV NOW added Dolby Digital Audio and DTS support to select FOX stations including FOX News. Later DIRECTV NOW added Dolby Digital Audio to Disney-owned channels including select ESPN channels. Now they have added Dolby Digital to their DVR Recordings and On-demand. The best part is according to reports on Reddit DIRECTV NOW is adding 5.1 audio to DVR recordings even on channels that do not currently support Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

If you have a sound system that supports Dolby Digital Audio or DTS you should now be able to take advantage of the new higher quality audio. We have known for some time this was coming because AT&T said they are working on it and it even popped up in beta tests in November 2017. Now it is important to remember not all programs offer Dolby Digital Audio. Only programs that are recorded in Dolby Digital Audio will offer Dolby Digital Audio.

AT&T has said they are working on other improvements including 4K streaming—something that for now only fuboTV offers.
