In a move to cater to cord-cutters seeking a more customized viewing experience, DIRECTV has launched a new “User Profiles” feature for its satellite-free streaming customers an option other services have already head. This enhancement allows each member of a household to create their own personalized profile within the “Your TV” platform, complete with tailored content recommendations, favorite shows and sports teams, cloud-based DVR recordings, and even individual pause and resume points.
Devin Merrill, DIRECTV’s senior vice president for product marketing, emphasized the need for this feature in today’s fragmented streaming landscape, stating, “The growing fragmentation of content across multiple apps and video services means it is increasingly more difficult for customers, especially with multiple at-home users, to find the shows and games they want.” The new User Profiles aim to declutter this experience by providing each user with a personalized view of their preferred content, including scores and stats for their favorite sports teams.
With a single DIRECTV streaming account, customers can create up to five unique profiles. Each profile can be easily managed and customized, with the exception of the primary account holder’s profile. This feature is particularly timely with football season in full swing and baseball playoffs on the horizon, offering sports fans a streamlined way to access games and content tailored to their specific interests.
The “User Profiles” feature is currently enabled across most major streaming devices, including Gemini, Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, Android TV, and various mobile and web platforms. It’s important to note that this feature is currently exclusive to DIRECTV’s streaming service and is not yet available for satellite customers.
This update reflects DIRECTV’s ongoing efforts to enhance its streaming offerings and compete in the ever-growing cord-cutting market. By prioritizing personalization and ease of use, DIRECTV is positioning itself as a compelling option for households seeking a customized and convenient TV viewing experience.
