“We have seen in music with Spotify and TV with Netflix and Amazon that people will pay a sensible amount of money for a good service,” the Perform chief executive, Simon Denyer, said. “We want to be a Netflix for sport.”
Last week DAZN struck a $1 Billion deal and plans to use that money to move into the pay-per-view market in the United States. Currently, this is a market heavily dominated by HBO and Showtime with fights costing over $50 or more per fight sometimes.
DAZN charges just $12 a month and is said to want to strike deal s to air US pay-per-view fights for that price.
For now its very unlikely that in the imitate future DAZN will be able to bring their NFL rights to the United States. Yet don’t look for DAZN to stop at pay-per-view fights. They are likely hoping to expand the service into new sports and new markets.
