Dabby is DabKick’s answer to what they see as the problem of toggling between streaming services and using less than perfect voice controls for TV. Dabby uses an AI based search engine for a “more varied search that can instantly play the user’s favorite movie scene, an episode from the latest binge-worthy show, social media feeds and any other content across a variety of free or paid streaming services and the web.”
Dabby includes a TV dongle and a 7” wireless touch device that can consolidate your streaming subscriptions and that they say can replace all of your streaming devices and remotes.
Dabby can play any free or paid content that is available online, and not just TV shows and movies; Dabby’s proprietary content AI engine can easily identify a favorite clip, sports highlights and even social media content, like Instagram and Twitch, played on the user’s TV directly from the online source. Dabby’s proprietary seamless switching technology even allows users to transfer content between different TVs in the same house simply by walking from one room to another.
At CES, we met the Dabby team and tried out the device. We said “Hey Dabby, show me the clip where Jack Nicholson says ‘You can’t handle the truth’” and Dabby pulled up the clip from A Few Good Men on the TV where the dongle was connected.
One feature that stood out as a very helpful feature for our readers was the ability to manage subscriptions from one place. You can pull up a list of all of the services you’re subscribed to on the Dabby screen and easily cancel any unused services from that list. Dabby will even show you how much data each is using, helping those without unlimited data plans stay on track.
Dabby is currently available for pre-orders at $399 and will begin shipping in April 2020. Learn more at heydabby.com.
