Cord Cutters News

A Cup of Coffee With a Side of Antenna TV?

Today it was announced that the FREE digital network Cheddar will soon air programming on digital UHF stations in five markets that reach more than 4 million homes. Dunkin’ Donuts, which already advertises on Cheddar, will distribute antennas at events in those markets.

“Dunkin’ Donuts is a brand designed for busy, on-the-go consumers, who love adopting new and convenient technologies, like our mobile ordering. Our guests are shifting their media consumptions habits and increasingly consuming video for content. The new Cheddar broadcast signal will cover cities and communities, where we have over 150 franchised restaurants within the broadcast footprint, and we saw this as a great opportunity to expand our existing partnership and offer a fun gift to a limited number of Dunkin’ consumers at various events,” said Scott Hudler, Chief Digital Officer, Dunkin Donuts

“We are very excited about adding Cheddar to our line-up. Their innovative and dynamic business programming geared towards millennials is a perfect fit on our stations for the ever expanding cord-cutters and cord-nevers. DTV America is dedicated to bringing these type of quality networks to the underserved over-the-air viewer,” said Irwin Podhajser VP Business Development, DTV America.

Chedder also announced that they are working on getting his network carried on new “skinny” bundles of live TV channels streamed online. Cheddar is already available on Sling TV and they are hopping to be added to others like DIRECTV NOW and PlayStation Vue.

You can also watch Cheddar for free on Twitter and Facebook. About 1 million people see Cheddar live each day, largely through the free streams on social media like Facebook and Twitter.

The company has two feeds. One is a paid version that airs eight hours of programming a day, including six hours that are live. It’s distributed on Dish Network Corp.’s Sling TV, Amazon.com Inc.’s Prime, and via its own app, where subscribers pay $2.99 a month.

The second feed airs two to three hours a day of original content plus archived programming — that’s carried on Facebook and will air on the broadcast stations.
