CrimeStoppers Launches an Anti-Kodi Add-On Campaign

Watching TV, Watching, Living Room, Domestic Life, SmilingCrimeStoppers in the UK recently launched an all-out anti-Kodi add-on campaign targeting third-party Kodi add-ons promoting piracy and fully loaded “Kodi Boxes.”

In a series of four commercials, CrimeStoppers clearly goes after users and sellers of piracy add-ons and the so-called “Kodi Boxes.” They also try to dispel the idea that it is legal to stream pirated content.

Here is the first ad:

This all comes as governments and content owners around the world are cracking down on streaming piracy especially with Kodi add-ons. In the UK and Canada there have been arrests involving the so-called “Kodi Boxes.” Here in the US content owners have started targeting add-on makers and box sellers with lawsuits.

They don’t stop at just trying to convince you that this is not legal. They are also trying to link streaming piracy and organized crime:

Next up is an ad to warn parents of the danger of illegal streaming and the lack of parental controls:

The last ad is about the dangers:

So is it legal to watch pirated streams or sell devices to watch them? In many parts of the world and especially in the UK it is not legal and courts recently have been ruling in favor of content owners and against app and box sellers.

In the US only recently have we seen the start of court cases against box sellers and add-on makers. We likely won’t know until sometime in 2018 how the courts will rule on this issue.

Yet what this all really comes down to is there a difference between tormenting something courts have ruled on multiple times and streaming something that is only now coming into court.
