Cord Cutting Will Grow to 33 Million Americans in 2018 According to a New Study

Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating people cancelling cable TV serviceIt looks like cord cutting is growing faster than expected. A new study from the research firm eMarketer says cord cutting will grow to 33 million Americans in 2018.

Putting a firm number on cord cutting has always been difficult. Unlike cable TV that publishes hard numbers every year, cord cutting is made up of many different services. Recently it was believed that cord cutting included 25 million Americans; however, a 33 million number seems reasonable as cord cutting continues to pick up speed.

Yet there are signs that cord cutting may slow down in 2019. As the economy continues to improve, the number of Americans looking to save money keeps dropping but it doesn’t stop the growth of cord cutting. According to eMarketer, cord cutting growth in 2019 will slow to 18.9% down from the predicted 32.8% growth in 2018.

Although some may try to sell that as bad news for cord cutting, the truth is it shows the strength of cord cutting. Even when the economy is strong millions of Americans are still deciding they no longer need cable TV.
