Cord Cutting Hits a New High

Earnings season is almost at an end, and we now get a new look at how fast cord cutting is growing. As we take a look, according to MoffettNathanson Research, cord cutting has hit a new high.

According to reports almost 500,000 traditional pay-TV customers cut the cord and did not replace it with a traditional pay-TV service. That brings the total number of cord cutters to 13.5 million US households, according to MoffettNathanson Research.

Now the number of total cord cutters is a hard number to pin down. With cord nevers—the people who never had cable being hard to determine—and many traditional pay-TV providers, including streaming subscribers in their subscriber numbers, it can be hard to say how may cord cutters there really are.

Late last year research firm eMarketer said that by the end of 2017 22.2 million US adults will have cut the cord on a traditional pay-TV provider. Others have tried to pin the number of total cord cutters at over 25 million, but all we can do is estimate the number of cord cutters.

What we do know is that cord cutting is growing and the number of cord cutters has never been higher.
