Cord Cutters News

Cord Cutting Has Come a Long Way in Two Years…

netflix-watchingTwo years ago cord cutting was a very different place and a much harder one…

Streaming Devices

Back in June 2014 the newest device on the market was the brand-new Fire TV first generation. (The Fire Stick had not yet been announced.) The Roku 1 and Roku 2 were less than a year old… There was no app store on the Apple TV, and people expected a new Apple TV any day but would sadly have to wait almost two more years.

The purple Roku Stick 3500 was only a few months old, and the Chromecast was not even a year old…

What about services?

Back in 2014 some of the biggest streaming services included Redbox and Blockbuster and now they are both long gone…

Sling TV was still almost a year away and the dream of watching TV live or on ESPN was just that—a dream…

Tubi TV was only a few months old…

PlayStation Vue was not even dreamed about yet…

The WWE Network had just launched a few months previously in what was a ground-shaking new service at the time…

YouTube was not even available on most Roku devices…

What do we have now?

Now we can watch a ton of live sports with ESPN and FS1 that we could never have dreamed of two years ago. Sling TV and PlayStation Vue have brought cord cutters over a 100 stations streamed live to their homes.

We have new, faster, better streaming players. We have new streaming services giving cord cutters more options. We also have a long list of new services already announced from Hulu, YouTube, DirecTV, and more…

Yet this is just the start of what is coming as cord cutting is growing faster and faster. So the question is what will cord cutting be like in two years? My guess is better than we could ever imagine…
