Cord Cutters Would Rather Pay to Skip Ads According to a New Survey

dad and daughters watching tvWith a lot of discussion about streaming service pricing lately, digital storytelling platform Apester conducted a survey that asked respondents about their opinions on new streaming services and how they prefer to watch content.

For the survey, Apester spoke with over 22,450 global consumers in a poll that was offered across multiple channels, for a better representation of cord cutters as a whole.

One question asked if respondents prefer an ad-supported streaming platform or a subscription based one. According to the survey, 43.97% of people would rather pay for a subscription and skip ads, 33.74% said they would rather use an ad-supported platform. And 22.29% didn’t have a strong preference either way.

This question comes at an interesting time, now that new services are launching and offering options when it comes to watching with ads or paying for an ad-free experience. Apple+ and Disney+ are providing ad-free service (though Disney+ subscribers will see a quick Starz ad after signing up.) NBC is taking a different approach and will reportedly be making Peacock a free, ad-supported service.
