Did you know most Internet providers offer discount plans? The FCC requires Internet providers to offer discounted home Internet. The catch is you have to qualify for these plans.
So, here is a quick break down of some discounted home Internet services and how to apply.
Verizon Fios Discount Internet
Verizon Fios Internet service also participates in the FCC Internet service by offering 18 Mbps down Internet to qualifying customers.

FCC LifeLine
The FCC offers home Internet to qualifying Internet customers. With this plan you can get home Internet for as low as $9.25 a month from the FCC.
You can qualify for this program if you have:
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps
- Medicaid
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
- Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit
- Tribal Programs (and live on federally recognized Tribal lands)

Internet Essentials from Comcast
Comcast is bringing affordable high-speed Internet to low-income households for $9.95 per month.
To qualify, your household must:
- Be in a Comcast service area
- Receive state and/or federal assistance
- Not have any level of Xfinity Internet service now or within the last 90 days
- Not have an outstanding Comcast balance that is less than one year old
Including meeting all of the above, your household must also be eligible for or receive public assistance like:
- Medicaid: Federal Healthcare Program
- NSLP: National School Lunch Program
- SNAP: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
- Housing: public housing assistance including HUD, Section 8, Housing Choice Vouchers, etc.
- TANF: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
- SSI: Supplemental Security Income
- LIHEAP: Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program
- Federal Pell Grant: Community college financial aid (CO and IL only)
- WIC: Women, Infants, and Children
- VA: Veterans Pension eligibility determination letter from the Veterans Administration
- Tribal Assistance program including TTANF, FDPIR

AT&T is offering low-cost wireline home Internet service to qualifying households for $5–10 per month, depending on location.
To qualify, you’ll need to meet these guidelines:
- With at least one resident who participates in the U.S. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and
- With an address in AT&T’s 21-state service area, at which we offer wireline home Internet service, and
- Without outstanding debt for AT&T fixed Internet service within the last six months or outstanding debt incurred under this program.
- If you are a California resident and at least one member of your household receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, you also may qualify based on the same requirements that apply to SNAP participants.
To find out if you qualify, visit the Access from AT&T website and enter your address to see if the program is available in your area. If it is, begin the application. When your application is approved, call AT&T to get started.
Spectrum is bringing reliable, high-speed Internet to qualified households for $14.99 per month.
To qualify for Spectrum Internet Assist, a member of the household must be a recipient of one of the following programs:
- The National School Lunch Program (NSLP); free or reduced cost lunch
- The Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) of the NSLP
- Supplemental Security Income (≥ age 65 only)
Enter your zip code on the Spectrum Internet Assist website to find out if the offer is available in your area, then call to get started.
Cox is bringing an Internet connection to qualifying households for $9.95 per month.
To be considered for the Connect2Compete program, applicants must meet and verify the following requirements:
- Have at least one K–12 student living in the household
- Participate in one of the following: The National School Lunch Program (NSLP), SNAP, TANF, or Public Housing
- Not be subscribed to Cox High Speed Internet service in the last 90 days
- No outstanding Cox bills or unreturned equipment
Eligible families can apply online. Paper applications will be accepted for those who were previously not approved. Additional proof is then required to determine eligibility.
