Now it looks as though Amazon is about to release a major update to the Fire TV Stick before Christmas. According to an FCC filing found by AFTVnews.com, a new Fire TV Stick is going through the FCC approval process right now.
So far this year we have already seen a new Nvidia Shield and several different Roku models get FCC approval and now we have confirmation of a Fire TV Stick.
According to Elias at AFTVnews.com there does not seem to be 4K support with the new stick. “It does not appear the new Fire TV Stick will have 4K capabilities, but it’s not out of the question. I’m basing this on the fact that a 1920×1200 monitor and 720p MPEG4 video was used during testing. Usually, a 4K monitor is used to test 4K capable devices, which is what was the case with the Fire TV 2’s FCC filing.”
There is also no mention of a MicroSD slot on the new Fire TV Stick so do not plan on seeing any expandable memory with the new Fire TV Stick. What is important here is the addition of a dual-band 802.11AC Wi-Fi to the Fire TV Stick, which is a huge improvement over the current 802.11n Wi-Fi radio that should help improve streaming.
