The contract for the show is coming up and sources have told The New York Times that Jerry Seinfeld is in talks with Hulu and Netflix to move the show to the highest bidder.
In a statement, Sony told The New York Times, “‘Comedians in Cars’ has been a great part of Crackle’s programming lineup for years, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Jerry Seinfeld.”
There are many possibilities here because Seinfeld holds the rights to the show. Sources have said that new episodes may still appear first on Crackle but the old back catalog of shows will move to Hulu or Netflix. It is also possible the show will totally move over and new shows will no longer be on Crackle.
This could all be an effort to get more money from Sony as they play the field. What we do know is for now the future of the show that has gained over 100 million streams is unknown at this time.
