Comcast is giving cord-cutters a reason to cheer as its NOW Internet discount service—launched last year—receives a significant speed upgrade at no extra cost. The NOW 100 and NOW 200 plans, starting at $30 and $40 monthly, respectively, are getting a notable boost in upload speeds while maintaining their budget-friendly download rates of 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps. This enhancement, rolling out across all Comcast markets nationwide, positions the prepaid service as a formidable rival to 5G home internet options, offering unlimited data and an Xfinity gateway without the fuss of contracts or credit checks.
The NOW 100 plan, previously delivering 100 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, now boasts 20 Mbps upload speeds—doubling its capacity to handle tasks like video calls and cloud uploads—still priced at $30 a month. The NOW 200 tier jumps from 200 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up to 200 Mbps down and 20 Mbps up for $40 monthly, enough for six simultaneous 4K streams plus web surfing. Comcast’s Bill Connors, President of Connectivity and Platforms, hailed the move, saying, “NOW is a simple, reliable, and low-cost way for people to get Internet on their own terms, and this speed boost reflects our commitment to delivering value.” The upgrade, effective immediately, targets the growing demand for robust connectivity among cord-cutters who’ve embraced Comcast’s new prepaid model since its debut.
Now as people spend more time on video calls, uploading videos and photos, and more upload speeds have become very important.
Introduced in May of 2024 to compete directly with 5G home internet providers like T-Mobile and Verizon, Comcast NOW pairs its speed enhancements with unlimited data and an included Xfinity gateway, sidestepping the data caps or equipment rentals that often plague traditional plans. “Consumers want low-cost, easy-to-use connectivity that doesn’t sacrifice quality,” said Dave Watson, President and CEO of Connectivity and Platforms, Comcast. “With NOW, we’ve built a product from the ground up to meet that need.” The service’s flexibility—no long-term commitments or credit checks—has already resonated with trial users, and this speed bump sweetens the deal, ensuring it can support multiple 4K streams (20-25 Mbps each) and everyday online tasks with ease.
Available nationwide, NOW Internet’s reach spans Comcast’s entire footprint, from rural towns to urban hubs. Customers can check availability at Comcast’s website and opt into NOW Mobile’s $25-per-line unlimited 5G talk, text, and data for a bundled experience. As 5G home internet gains traction, Comcast’s latest move—offering faster uploads at the same price—underscores its bid to dominate the prepaid market, blending superior network reliability with a price point that’s tough to beat.
