Recently companies such as AMC, A&E, Discovery, and Viacom have been pushing for a $20 or less TV package free of the expensive sports channels, and it looks like Comcast is concerned about this so is pushing back against it.
According to a report from the American Cable Association (ACA), Comcast is telling cable companies if they offer a sports-free option Comcast will pull their sports networks including NBC Sports.
Comcast is also reportedly telling small cable operators that if more than 15 percent of their subscribers get the basic TV and Internet service they must include the regional sports network in that bundle according to Bloomberg.
“Comcast, it seems, is standing in the way of ACA members that want to help their customers escape the burdens of the big and expensive expanded basic bundle of channels,” ACA Chief Executive Officer Matthew M. Polka said in a statement.
The ACA represents many smaller cable companies that have about 7 million subscribers.
Sports networks are some of the most expensive channels in your TV bill. For now it looks like Comcast has made it clear it plans to keep them in as many packages as possible.
