Comcast Teams Up with the Cord Cutting Service VIVA Live TV

Channel Surfing ManRecently Comcast and VivaLive TV quietly announced that they have teamed up for some unknown project. A regulatory 8-K filing made by Viva Entertainment Group on November 28, 2018, found by LightReading.com announced that VivaLive TV has entered into “material definitive agreement” with Comcast.

VivaLive TV sells premade live TV streaming packages that can be rebranded and resold. ViveLive TV is partnered with Omniverse One World Television, Inc similar to how SiliconDust’s HDHomeRun TV service works.

Exactly what Comcast and Viva Entertainment Group plan to do is unknown, but the filing says they will have more announcements in early 2019. Speculation on this deal has run rampant—from VivaLive TV coming to the Comcast X1 box to some back-end software deal to power some new version of Comcast’s streaming service. (Currently, Comcast limits their streaming service to Comcast Internet customers only.)

Comcast so far has kept live TV streaming services off their X1 box. The one exception here has been Sling TV, but on the X1 box Sling TV is only offering international packages that are not in direct competition with Comcast.

For now, we will have to wait and see what Comcast is up to, adding one more mystery streaming service that may or may not be targeting cord cutters to the mix.

Update: Omniverse is currently being sued by ACE, read more here.
