Comcast Reportedly Has a New Tactic to Trick Cord Cutters Into Buying Cable TV

Worried couple reading a letter sitting on a couch in the living room at homeFor years phone reps have tried everything possible to get cord cutters to come back to cable TV. Typically these efforts go by ads that hide many of the fees and taxes. More recently they have started to limit access to their fastest internet packages to TV customers.

Now we have been hearing of a new tactic and a recent Reddit post seems to confirm what we have heard.

This new tactic has Comcast phone reps promising faster internet at a cheaper price if you are willing to use their streaming box. When the box comes, you suddenly find out you have signed up for cable TV and the streaming box is just a Comcast X1 set-top box that also happens to have a few streaming services such as Netflix.

When you plug in the Comcast X1 box you will find you now have a cable TV subscription. It’s important to remember that Comcast calls their on-demand service streaming. They seem to be pushing the idea that you are getting streaming because of the on-demand side of the cable TV service.

So be careful. The next time you hear a rep promise faster speeds at a lower price if you get a streaming player from Comcast, it is likely an attempt to get you to sign up for cable TV.
