Comcast Is Again Raising Their Sports & Broadcast TV Fees

A young woman is sitting in her kitchen and is loking at her receipts at home while using a smart phoneAre you ready to pay over $14 a month for regional sports and broadcast TV? If you have Comcast in some markets soon you won’t have an option but to pay the new higher fee.

Currently Comcast charges $11 a month for both its regional sports fee and broadcast TV fee. This is the fee it hides in the small text and goes to pay for sports and local TV channels.

Now in some markets, including customers in Oregon, these fees will soon cost $14.50 a month—a $3.50 increase.

Comcast says these fees are necessary to cover the rising cost of programming contracts with broadcasters and regional sports networks, but four Oregon communities recently asked the state attorney general to investigate Comcast’s use of fees not included in advertised monthly rates.

We do not know every market that will be hit with the higher fees. It is not unusual for Comcast to roll out fees market by market; however, if one market—this case Oregon—starts to see the higher fees, you can count on them rolling out to more markets soon.

So next time you see that great promo deal for TV and Internet don’t forget the small text that lists fees for regional sports and broadcast TV.
