Comcast Plans to Use AI to Improve Home Internet

The battle to offer better home internet has come a long ways from the days of dial-up. Now Comcast is turning to AI to improve your home internet.

Comcast used the Super Bowl to run ads promoting a 10G down home internet service. The idea is it will power everything you could need to run a smart home today and into the future.

Now thanks to a Comcast shareholder letter, we have learned more abo how Comcast plans to offer 10G home internet. One of the things we learned is that Comcast’s Xfinity Internet plans to start using intuitive AI to help improve home internet.

“Our evolution to 10G and a virtual, software-based network – infused with intuitive AI capabilities – will equip us to power the incredible applications yet to be fully imagined,” Comcast said in its letter to share shoulders.

According to Comcast, there are nearly one billion devices connected to the Comcast network, a 12x jump since 2018. Also, more than 30 million customers are paying for a gigabit or higher speeds.

So what will this AI do? Comcast has yet to confirm, but there are reports that Comcast plans to use AI to help better manage network demand, detect outages, and improve the speed of its network.

As more Americans connect more devices to the internet, the need for better home internet will only increase. Today a 10G connection is something most Americans will not be able to take full advantage of, but in the future, they likely will.
