Comcast is Reportedly Eliminating The Free DVR Option

comcast signAbout two weeks ago Cord Cutters News broke the news that Comcast was planning on raising its prices on December 18th, 2019. Now we have learned that there is one more hidden price hike mixed in with all the others coming from Comcast.

According to Comcast employees, soon Comcast will be eliminating the free DVR option. In the past, your first set-top box was free but now Comcast will charge $5 a month as an “Outlet Fee” for the first device and each additional box will cost $9.95 each on some plans. According to reports, this new fee will be phased in on new customers so if you are already a customer you may not have to worry about this fee for now.

This new fee is on top of the Broadcast TV fee going up from $10 a month to $14.95 a month. You will also see the basic TV package go up from $30 a month to $35 a month.

The good news for cord cutters is that you will save more now compared to what you did before this price hike. Yes, the price of most internet plans is going up $3 a month, but that is less than the $4.95 a month price hike on broadcast TV alone.

The bad news for cable TV subscribers is your TV and internet bill is going up by as much as $18.99 a month. This will add up to $227.88 a year in extra costs for your Comcast TV plus internet package when counting the new $5 a month outlet fee.
