Comcast is Replacing Cinemax with Hitz in Some Packages

In a report today, we learned that Comcast is removing Cinemax from some of its packages and replacing the premium channel with a new channel, Hitz.

Hitz will be replacing Cinemax for the Xfinity Premier and Super packages, among others. Others will keep Cinemax and customers will still have the option to subscribe to Cinemax (as well as other premium channels) as an add-on for an extra $12/month.

“Most of the movies on Cinemax have also aired on HBO. By offering Hitz instead, we’ll be delivering customers a better variety of content,” Comcast said.

This change comes after Spectrum removed premium channels from their Silver and Gold plans earlier this year. In February, Spectrum removed Cinemax from both of those packages and removed Epix from the Gold package. Again, the channels were still made available as add-ons for an additional monthly fee.

It looks like cable is moving farther from the idea of getting everything you want on one bill.

With both Comcast and Spectrum removing premium content from their packages, is this a trend we’ll continue to see with cable companies? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
