Comcast is Dropping Local ABC, NBC, FOX, & CBS For Some Customers

If you still have Comcast’s cheap SD TV package, you may be surprised to find that your local channels are vanishing in some areas.

Now in markets like Morgantown, West Virginia, Comcast is no longer offering locals to customers who do not pay for HD packages.

In a statement, WDTV CBS told customers about Comcast’s changes to how they offer locals:

A Comcast official says those who have a digital high-definition cable box can receive WDTV on channel 1195 and WVFX on channel 1196.

Comcast customers with standard definition service will no longer receive WDTV and WVFX, Comcast officials say.

Comcast has slowly been pushing its remaining SD customers over to HD. For Comcast, this is more profitable for them as they charge a $9.95 a month HD Technology fee to customers who get HD TV. Dropping locals from SD packages seems to be a part of that push to get more customers over to HD instead of SD.

Most SD packages remaining are Comcast’s basic lineup that just offers locals and a handful of other channels like CSPAN for example. Removing locals from that package does make it far less attractive.

Do you know anyone still just using an SD Comcast package? Leave us a comment and let us know if they have been impacted by this.
