Comcast is reportedly only offering the free speed upgrades to customers who also have a cable TV subscription. Historically, when Comcast increases the speed in a market everyone gets the upgrade this time Comcast is only offering the speed boost to customers who also pay for cable TV in Houston, Texas.
With this deal customers who had 60Mbps internet download speeds are being upped to 150Mbps; 150Mbps subscribers are going to 250Mbps; and 250Mbps subscribers are getting a raise to 400Mbps or 1Gbps.
This could be a sign of a long-term plan by Comcast to keep the best speeds for cable subscribers.
The good news is even 60 Mbps is more than enough if you are looking to stream. At that speed you could stream 12 HD Netflix streams at once.
The question now is will Comcast be able to keep doing this as more internet competition continues to expand. Not just new fiber options but 5G internet is starting to roll out across the nation to offer true competition.
