Comcast Extends Coronavirus Policies to June 30 as Original End Date Nears

Comcast Logo LargeFollowing Verizon’s announcement earlier today, Comcast is also opting to extend its suite of coronavirus response policies to the end of June. The two companies are among those taking part in the Federal Communications Commission’s Keep Americans Connected Pledge, which calls on companies to enact specific policies to aid customers during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. And with the pledge’s original 60-day window closing in early May for many who signed on initially, we’re likely to see several more broadband providers and telcos announce updates to their respective policies.

To recap, the FCC’s pledge called for companies to not terminate services for residential or small business customers who are having trouble paying bills due to the coronavirus pandemic. The pledge also required waivers for late fees and open access to WiFi hotspots. On top of those steps, many companies have added on their own measures, including Comcast — the company has removed data caps and offered free Internet Essentials service to qualified low-income households.

Today’s announcement extends the companies policies to June 30th, matching Verizon’s new date. We’ll continue to be on the lookout for updates from other major broadband providers and telcos in the coming days.
