This deal gives CBS the power to represent all the independent affiliate owners that run CBS stations around the United States. Now we are getting a closer look at how these deals work in a candid conversation from CBS vice president of business development.
It seems CBS struck two deals with its affiliates for streaming rights. The deals would allow Hulu and YouTube access to CBS until 2020 and CBS All Access Through 2019. Affiliate owners will get paid per subscriber, but the exact amount per subscriber has not been disclosed.
PlayStation Vue already has deals with individual CBS affiliates. These deals will need to end before the new CBS burgeoning deal comes into play.
As for Sling and DIRECTV NOW this deal allows CBS to negotiate with them but a deal will need to be made. At this time no timeline has been set for a Sling TV or DIRECTV NOW deal.
NBC and ABC have also made similar deals with their affiliates but details have not been announced.
