Clarification: Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) vs Omniverse Lawsuit

Earlier this week someone who says they have a vested interest in Omniverse pointed out that HBO was not a part of the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) vs Omniverse lawsuit.

We wanted to make sure we clearly pointed that while ACE’s members include AMC, CBS, HBO, NBCUniversal, Fox, Disney, and many others and they have the goal of protecting their works this does not mean every member of ACE is directly involved in the Omniverse lawsuit.

So what is this lawsuit? For some time now services have been popping up using the Omniverse One World Television system to create live TV streaming services. These are not small companies as they even include Silicondust; the parent company behind the HDHomeRun popular DVR. Omniverse has been very secretive in the past but promised that they do have rights for this content. Now, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) has filed a lawsuit saying they do not have the rights to this content.

Omniverse has been very clear that they have the rights to do what they do. They say they have a 100-year contract that allows them to offer their service. ACE says they do not and both sides seem to be digging in for a long legal fight. For now, we will have to wait and see what the courts decided about the legality of Omniverse.
