Chromecast with Google TV Update Includes Improved Spanish Language Support

ChromecastReview1

A new update reportedly arriving on the Chromecast with Google TV includes improvements aimed at offering a better user experience to Spanish speakers in the US. 9to5 Google reported that users can expect more home screen tabs in Spanish, as well as improved search results.

The update builds upon the previous Spanish language home screen that displayed tabs for Inicio (Home), Aplicaciones (Applications), Coleccion (Collection), and Buscar (Search). Post-update, users should see a total of seven tabs on their home screen. The Buscar tab remains, while the Aplicaciones tab gets shortened down to Apps. Joining those tabs are Para Ti (For You), En vivo (Live), Peliculas (Movies), Programas (Shows), and Biblioteca (Library).

As 9to5 Google points out, this update appears to be aimed specifically at Spanish speakers in the US. We confirmed this by switching the system language on our own Chromecast with Google TV to each of the three Spanish language options available: Spain, Mexico, and the United States. Of the three, only the US option displays the expanded selection of tabs. Those using the Spain or Mexico options will see the older layout.

The home screen tabs currently differ between US-based Spanish (above) and those for Mexico and Spain (below).

We’re not sure if and/or when other Spanish language settings will receive a similar update, but for those in the US with their Chromecasts set to Spanish, your home screen should now more closely resemble the layout found in English language option.
