Chromecast is Coming to Hotels to Make Cord Cutting Easy

Ever been in a hotel and wish you could easily watch Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and more? Or wish you could watch your favorite live TV streaming service such as Sling TV or DIRECTV NOW? In more hotels you will soon be able to.

AT&T will soon be adding a system called “Staycast” to DIRECTV service for hotels. This will allow guests to cast any Chromecast-compatible stream to their hotel TV.

“Consumers are now taking their entertainment with them wherever they go, including hotels,” Ed Balcerzak, senior vice president, commercial & connected communities at AT&T, said in a statement.

To use the Chromecast feature you will need to connect your phone or tablet to the hotel Wi-Fi. From there you will download the hotel’s app on iOS or Android. That will give you access to your hotel’s TV for Chromecast.

Streaming in hotel rooms has been a growing market with Enseo releasing a dedicated TV for hotels that have Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services already installed. Other hotels have been making it easier to plug in a streaming player to your hotel TV.

Clearly hotels see the demand from guests to access their streaming content even when they are on the road. Hopefully more hotels will continue to add support for streaming to their TVs.
