Chromecast Audio Is Dead

Google Chromecast Audio took the Chromecast idea from your TV and added it to your stereo. With this device you could cast music from popular apps to your existing stereo system. Now Google is pulling the plug on the device and is selling off what is left of their stock for $15 each.

“Our product portfolio continues to evolve, and now we have a variety of products for users to enjoy audio,” Google told TechCrunch in a statement. “We have therefore stopped manufacturing our Chromecast Audio products. We will continue to offer assistance for Chromecast Audio devices, so users can continue to enjoy their music, podcasts and more.”

So, what killed Chromecast Audio? Likely two issues. First, the rise of smart speakers that do a lot more than a Chromecast Audio. Second, most new stereo systems sold in the last few years also include at least a Bluetooth option.

You can understand why Google is pulling the plug on the Chromecast Audio because most people who would want a device like this already have it and the limited market going forward.
